I need frequent breaks from social media. I took almost a year off last year which was so needed. This year I started sharing public this healing journey. I don’t know what to truly call it. I mean it’s weight loss but it’s so much more. I heard someone say after they got their hair done that they felt like their outside matched their inside. It made sense to me. I do feel like I’ve been through so much inner healing that it was time to get my outside to match my inside. Anyway, I have been scrolling A LOT. It’s truly tough when your job is essentially sharing on social media so there’s time posting, commenting, etc but then you personally scroll and before you know it you’ve spent SEVERAL hours on your phone. I do feel that I’ve slidden into just scrolling to stay distracted purposefully which may not necessarily aways be an unhealthy thing to choose however for me, it’s not good. I don’t want it affecting my Jesus time which I do feel it is. My relationship with God must come first. My life depends on it.
Today, day number one trying not to scroll I realized how distracting it has been for me. I was able to fill four boxes full of stuff to take to Abundant Blessings. (local thrift) FOUR BOXES. It was all decorations. Most of the decorations were from twenty some years ago when we first got married so I was going down memory lane as well. I still have more organizing to do with what I’m keeping but the room isn’t looking like all four holidays exploded. I wish I would have taken before and after pictures but then again it’s a bit embarrassing especially when I do have more time on my hands. I also had morning bible time and I sat at the keyboard and worshipped. Ummm…. can I be honest? My days are not consistent with all of those things. I feel like I talk to God constantly however to have intentional time like I did today has been not so frequent. I will be curious if I notice any difference in my sleep. I don’t sleep well. I haven’t for years but I could go deeper with that conversation.
Overall day one was a success. I did log in twice to Facebook and Instagram (I think) and quickly logged out so I may need to completely delete them from my phone if this is going to be a longer break. Maybe I should do that anyway and just log in on my laptop. Hmm… already ideas brewing for a healthy return back with boundaries. I will give updates on how I’m feeling during this break and give more detailed benefits for your nervous system.
Yet again I will ALWAYS be an advocate for taking a break from your phone!
Go be with Jesus instead and clean out clutter.
Your future self will thank you.
